Betting Career Horse on PowerBI

Safe bet? Crazy bet?

I literally just posted this 10 minutes ago in another thread, so I’ll post it here as well. Some of it doesn’t apply to OP, but you get the idea:
Okay, so if your goal is to become more marketable then I suggest broadening your scope. Consider Power BI as your vertical but gain experience across the MS landscape.
There are two broad areas that I’d suggest: (1) the Power Apps suite but primarily (90%) focusing on Power BI; (2) Azure data tools but primarily focusing on Data Factory and Databricks.
Regarding (1): develop a Power App as a test, but spend more time learning Microsoft Flow, aka Logic Apps.
On to Power BI - everyone will probably tell you to learn DAX which is good advice. However, the reality is that you won’t pick it up properly unless you’re using it on a project. Moreover, you’ll potentially learn certain functions and methodologies that apply primarily to that particular project, e.g., semi-additive measures, which won’t necessarily be applicable to other projects. I’m not trying to dissuade you from learning it, instead I’m giving you forewarning not to get your hopes up that you’ll be an expert within 3 months of study. It ain’t easy. The key takeaway from the early stages of the DAX journey is learning what good data looks like. This in invaluable because if you spend more time creating clean data then you’re less likely to need to know complicated DAX...which is a great segue to my next topic.
Power Query is the most bang for your buck. You can use it in twice as many tools as DAX, with more to come. Moreover, you can do way more stuff with it. Power Query will soon be your gateway drug into Azure once it matures in the cloud over the next 2 years. An expert at Power Query is unparalleled in the world of data. I can’t even count how many times I’ve blown the minds of seasoned data scientists and ETL developers by developing M scripts in 15 minutes that would take them over 20 hours to do in their language or tool of choice, e.g., Python pandas. Lastly, since your organization is moving to Power BI later this year, you can use Power Query right now inside Excel and gain a head start; sure you could use Power Pivot, but only on 1/10th of the projects that you could use Power Query for.
Regarding point (2), Azure. Sign up for Microsoft Azure right now. Don’t be afraid of putting in your credit card details - we’ve all done it. When you sign up, you’ll get $200 USD to spend in the first month. DO NOT WASTE IT! Use it to install and play with the following tools in this order: (0) learn how Active Directory works at a high level (1) Azure Blob Storage to store data; (2) Azure Data Lake v2 (preview) to also store data; (3) Logic Apps (aka Microsoft Flow) to automate various business processes; (4) SQL Server Managed Instance to store queryable data; (5) Data Factory to ETL from blob/Data Lake into SQL; (6) DataBricks to learn Python and Spark. Gain an understanding of what each one does, how to set it up, and where it fits into the grand scheme of enterprise BI.
If you’re intermediate in all of the above tools, then you could easily apply for $120K USD positions, minimum.
What is the biggest story of your betting career that you'll never forget?

I still remember that day in summer, 1 or 2 years ago.. I had my running system and made around 9k€+ profit in a pretty short time. After a successful day of betting I went out partying and had alot of fun. Somehow, I came home pretty early (2am). Because I was still hyped due to the acohol, I wasn't able to fall asleep instantly and the first thing I did was checking the running games. As happy as I was (or not) it was the perfect time for brazilan football! Because my system was based on watching games, I was just checking some inplay stats. Yes! I found the peeerfect game (This post may contain some irony) and slammed around 1k€ on under halftime. At least now I wasnt able to sleep anymore so I kept following the game in the live console, still with a smile on my face. I already celebrated as there wasnt any more goals in the 40' minute. Easy money! I switched to another app and openened the game again some minutes later. I couldnt believe my eyes as I saw that the teams scored 2 goals in the last 5 minutes. I thought I opened the wrong game, but I didnt. To win back the loss I put another 1 or 2k on under fulltime. As destiny wanted to, I lost that bet too. I started to freak out a little bit and started realizing but I was still in trance. As they destroyed my under 2 times already I bet another 2k on under 0.5 in the 65' minute or so. I lost again. At that point, I started to lose full control. I realized that I just lost 5k in a matter of minutes and in that stage I couldnt think clear.. I ended up slamming another 2k on over 0.5 because I was completely in the tunnel and thought "3 Times over, now I will get it all back with over too!!!". Finally, after my over bet, the goals stopped coming. I was sitting in front of my screen for atleast 5 minutes without doing anything, just staring. A thousend thoughts were streaming trough my head. After the first wave I finally started realizing that I just burned 7k on ONE single game. I felt numb and like I was out of control of my body and mind in the last hour. The next day I woke up sober, I was just shaking my head how stupid I was to not deposit the profit before going out. The good part: This one night tought me alot of lessons and since then, I never did the same mistakes again.
Now its time for your stories! (Maybe some positive ones, lol!) And please don't try to teach me stuff regarding my story. I was able to afford the loss and so on and so on, but I still want to share the lessons with you (if you gamble as a hobby, then you could stop reading here):

Top Comment: Everyone is in board with more people going to trade school, so long as it's other people and other people's kids going. We have to break the mindset that a four year degree in Gender Studies is somehow better than a two year degree in Aviation Maintenance.
